What is it?

It involves the collection of sperm from the testicle using a needle and is performed in cases of obstructive azoospermia.

The technique entails inserting a needle into the testicle through the scrotum in order to collect sperm to be used for the assisted fertilisation procedure (ICSI).

Useful information

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia.

It is rare for the quantity of spermatozoa collected using this method to be such as to allow cryopreservation.
