What is it?

Sperm DNA fragmentation test: the test is performed by means of the sperm DNA’s susceptibility to acid denaturation using the SCD (Sperm Chromatin Dispersion) test with the Halosperm kit. Less frequently, it is performed using a fluorescence analysis called TUNEL (Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-digoxygenin nick-end labeling). During DNA fragmentation tests, at least 500 sperm are analysed for each sample.

Chromatin condensation test: the degree of sperm chromatin condensation is studied by staining with aniline blue. Sperm cells presenting a correct degree of chromatin condensation are colourless, whereas cells that present chromatic structure alterations are stained blue. At least 500 cells are analysed per sample.

Useful information

These tests are particularly recommended in cases of repeated reproductive failures in previous cycles. They are also recommended in cases of abnormal embryonic development.

In the interests of patient convenience, it is possible, on the same day, to make an appointment with the Laboratory, which will inform the patient of the conditions regarding days of abstinence and use of medicines.
